Link: In Japan

Greetings from London after visited China)

Ms.Isobel Clouter was visited China after travel in Japan. Though We were anxious her security in China, we received e-mail from London, 24,September, and we were relieved to see it.

Dear Shigeo Miwa

. Im sorry it has been such a long time since we spoke but when I returned from China I developed flu and then have only just recovered admist great turmoil in the west.

I have great news about the journey to the Badain Jarain desert - it was fantastic!

I met my colleague Rob Mullender in Beijing and we travelled together to Lanzhou where we were met by Professor Chu - Who admits that you are his teacher - and a Professor Zhou who was our translator.

The journey to the Badain Jarain desert was very tough. It was made more difficult by the fact that there had been no rain in the desert this year so many camels had died. This meant that we had to make the last part of the journey by jeep with a local driver - very scary!!!

We were very lucky because soon after we arrived at the oasis - we heard the first sound of natural booming from the dunes - and Rob and I ran off with our microphones in search of the sound. It was fanatastic - and everyone that we have played the sounds to in England is amazed at the sound. We stayed for 3 days and got many recordings from 4 different dunes - some natural booming sounds and some that we set off by ourselves.

It was very windy at night and our tent blew over on the second night. There was sand everywhere!! It was a very tough experience but absolutely fantastic and all the Chinese and Mongolian people were very friendly and welcoming.

I would like to thank you so much for all your help in Japan and the contacts that you made for me in China. I am now about to make some copies of the recordings that we made in China which I hope to send to you soon.

I will also be looking for the literature that you asked me to look up in the British Library in the next week or so. I will also try to make time to have a look at your notice on the website. I have seen the picture and am very honoured to be included on your website.

Thankyou very much My family loved the cloaking frog toy!!! I hope you are well and I will be in touch again very soon. Best Wishes and very kind regards

Isobel Clouter

.> It is sad information.

>the last part of the journey by jeep with a local driver - very scary!!!> Oh! It is terrible!!

> We were very lucky because soon after we arrived at the oasis - we heard >the first sound of natural booming from the dunes - and Rob and I ran

>off with our microphones in search of the sound. After your terrible journey, you could get most lucky data.

I could not get a sound of natural booming from the dunes. At my visit to the desert, climate was some rainy, then the sand did not produce sound of natural booming. Leaving aside all other things,I am glad to hear your safe. I hope to send you my Japanese book "Fantasy of Singing Sand in the world" to you soon.
