Shapotou is located on the southeastern edge of the Tengger Desert where the 4th largest desert in China.
We arrived the Shapotou Research Station on Octover 14 at 15:30. Pictured left is Mr. Iwase standing in front of the Shapotou Research Station. | |
Pictured left is another sight-seeing spot in the Chinese singing sand dunes. From the top of the singing dune (height 50 m), we can see the Yellow-River. Tourists ride on a camel to the sight-seeing. The sand did not boom that day, in spite of the nice ticket office personnel who tried to produce booming sounds by creating small sand avalanches. | |

The manager had tried to create a boom sound by producing a small avalanche like the pictured below. We could only hear a very low-volume sound, but we could not record it. | |
